Objectives

The main objective of “DEMIS – Doctoral Education in EMIS” is to organize an international doctoral degree program and network in the field of environmental management information systems. The DEMIS project is funded by the DAAD for the duration of 3 years. The DEMIS project will offer 9 positions for doctoral students to become a member of the recently established PhD network named Doctoral Education in EMIS. The network includes:

    • Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, Germany
    • University of Ghana, Ghana
    • Universidade Pedagógica, Mozambique
    • The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology, Tanzania

The doctoral education within the framework of DEMIS will start by mid of 2015. The project team expects to attract people with different academic backgrounds. As a result, the doctoral students have to attend specific synchronization modules prior to conducting research on an individual level.

In total there are 9 positions available. They are shared among the partnership as follows: 3 open positions are available for doctoral students associated with the University of Ghana and 2 open positions each for the remaining scientific institutions named above.

Each doctoral student will be provided with a supervision tandem including a local as well as an external (or foreign) supervisor. Per doctoral student the DEMIS project will cover the expenses for visiting all partner institutions as well as attending colloquiums organized by the DEMIS project team. The research exchange stays have a duration of 3 weeks to 3 months (depending on the host country).
